Keep your browser open and signed in while collection and the switch run. Access points reconnect as part of the move, and behaviour can vary by model and firmware, so plan the switch for a quiet period.

OpenWLC · Control launches shortly
OpenWLC is Optaro's own controller. It manages access points and switches over SSH, the interface your hardware already has, so it needs nothing from any vendor's cloud, licence server or agent. Cambium access points come first, when OpenWLC Control launches shortly. Ruckus is in build now, and enterprise switches and access points follow: one system for the whole site, even when the kit is mixed.
What lock-in actually costs you
Cambium's own guidance says that if its cloud licensing service, the Cloud Anchor, goes away, cnMaestro On-Premises keeps running but “you will not be able to add or delete any devices.” That is true of any cnMaestro server, wherever it is hosted, including ours. It is the clearest example of a pattern every vendor shares: your network works for as long as somebody else's cloud, licence and balance sheet allow it. A failed access point you cannot replace is a network with an expiry date.
Working today
On real Cambium hardware, OpenWLC already discovers an access point, takes over its management, registers it, reads its configuration, delivers changes and has them acknowledged, confirms the change on the device itself, and holds on to the access point through a reboot. No cnMaestro, no Anchor account and no Cambium login involved. Ruckus access points are being brought through the same steps now.

Every controller is a dedicated server for one customer. Unrelated customers never share a controller.
Each controller gets its own address with a trusted certificate, issued and renewed for you.
Migration runs through your own signed-in browser session. We never ask for that password.
Controller backups are taken for you and kept for 7 to 90 days, depending on your plan.

cnMaestro On-Premises is the self-hosted edition of Cambium's controller. CloudWLC runs a dedicated instance of it for you in the cloud, so you get your own controller without buying, building or maintaining a server.
CloudWLC migration and Cambium hosting are currently free. Choose the estate size that fits your deployment; larger estates can use multiple dedicated controllers without a hosting charge.
The portal guides you through pairing the CloudWLC Chrome extension with your new controller. You sign in to Cambium Cloud in your own browser, the extension collects supported configuration, CloudWLC imports and verifies it, and you choose when to switch your access points.
Today, yes. But you should know the limitation before you sign up. Cambium's own guidance is that if its cloud licensing service goes away, on-premises cnMaestro keeps running but cannot add or remove devices, and that applies wherever the controller is hosted, including with us. Cambium says it plans a release without that dependency; if it arrives, we will roll it out to every hosted controller for you. So move your existing devices across while Cambium's cloud is still running. Longer term, new hardware is likely to come from another vendor, which is why CloudWLC hosts UniFi alongside Cambium in the same account, and why we built OpenWLC: our own controller for Cambium access points, which needs no licence server at all. cnMaestro On-Premises and Cambium Cloud are different editions, so some cloud features, device models and firmware versions behave differently or are not carried over. The portal shows what has been prepared and lists anything needing attention before you switch.
