CloudWLC Open Controller · Launching on Friday 25 September
The CloudWLC Open Controller launches on Friday 25 September: our own wireless LAN controller, made by Optaro for hospitality networks, with Cambium access points as the first hardware it supports. It needs nothing from Cambium's cloud or licensing service, so adding, replacing and removing devices stays possible for as long as the hardware lasts.
The catch with every cnMaestro server
Cambium's own guidance says that if its cloud licensing service, the Cloud Anchor, goes away, cnMaestro On-Premises keeps running but “you will not be able to add or delete any devices.” That is true of any cnMaestro server, wherever it is hosted, including ours. A failed access point you cannot replace is a network with an expiry date.
Proven on real hardware so far
On Cambium hardware in our lab, an access point has been discovered and pointed at our controller, registered with it, had its configuration read, changed and acknowledged with the change verified on the device, and reconnected by itself after a reboot. No cnMaestro, no Anchor account and no Cambium login were involved.
Supported models and firmware are published as each one is tested, starting with the first release.

Every controller is a dedicated server for one customer. Unrelated customers never share a controller.
Each controller gets its own address with a trusted certificate, issued and renewed for you.

cnMaestro On-Premises is the self-hosted edition of Cambium's controller. CloudWLC runs a dedicated instance of it for you in the cloud, so you get your own controller without buying, building or maintaining a server.
Plans are £49 a month for up to 50 devices, £119 for 200 and £249 for 600, with two months free on annual billing. Prices are per controller and exclude VAT. Guided migration is included on every plan; larger estates are priced by conversation.
The portal guides you through pairing the CloudWLC Chrome extension with your new controller. You sign in to Cambium Cloud in your own browser, the extension collects supported configuration, CloudWLC imports and verifies it, and you choose when to switch your access points.
Today, yes. But you should know the limitation before you sign up. Cambium's own guidance is that if its cloud licensing service goes away, on-premises cnMaestro keeps running but cannot add or remove devices, and that applies wherever the controller is hosted, including with us. Cambium says it plans a release without that dependency; if it arrives, we will roll it out to every hosted controller for you. So move your existing devices across while Cambium's cloud is still running. Longer term, new hardware is likely to come from another vendor, which is why CloudWLC hosts UniFi alongside Cambium in the same account, and why we built the CloudWLC Open Controller: our own controller for Cambium access points, which needs no licence server at all.
